Nigeria’s U‑20 women’s national team, the Falconets, were knocked out of the 2026 FIFA U‑20 Women’s World Cup after a 1‑0 defeat to Colombia at the Stadion Miejski LKS in Lodz on Sunday afternoon.
The South American side secured a dramatic 92nd‑minute victory when Valerin Loboa headed home the winner. Colombia will now face North Korea in the tournament’s semi‑finals.
Despite the loss, several Nigerian players drew praise for their performances in Poland. Goalkeeper Christianah Uzoma, defender Tosin Rafiu, midfielder Janet Akekoromowei and forward Ramotalahi Kareem were highlighted as standouts.
Falconets head coach Moses Aduku said he remains optimistic about the squad’s future. “I think, first and foremost, this tournament is good for the young players,” Aduku told FIFA. “It gives them the ability to grow and reach the next level. I think, in Nigeria, we have seen the future of our players. And I think the future is very bright.”
