In a 2‑0 triumph over Cruz Azul, Lionel Messi capped Inter Miami’s 2026 Campeones Cup win with a header, marking a new career milestone for the 39‑year‑old Argentine.
The goal pushed Messi’s tally of 36 goals in finals to a record for any player in football history. Over the course of 53 finals he has also supplied 18 assists, according to the Ballon d’Or website.
It was also his 100th goal for Inter Miami, a club he joined in 2023. In 115 appearances he has scored 100 times and added 57 assists, a total of 157 direct goal contributions.
Messi’s arrival has coincided with a highly successful period for the club, which has won four trophies since he signed: the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, the 2025 MLS Cup and the 2026 Campeones Cup. His career trophy haul now stands at 48, surpassing Brazilian defenders Marquinhos and Dani Alves, who each have 43 titles.
At 39, Messi remains a leading nominee for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, having added further individual records and silverware during another prolific season.
