The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee has announced that applications for the 2027 award of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank will open on 1 November 2026.
Private legal practitioners who wish to be considered for the honour must pay a non‑refundable processing fee of N5 million, while lawyers employed by government agencies are required to pay N2.5 million.
All prospective candidates are instructed to complete their submissions through an online portal that the committee will launch on the same date, 1 November 2026.
The SAN rank is Nigeria’s most prestigious legal title, comparable to senior counsel designations in other common‑law jurisdictions, and is awarded to lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional advocacy and professional conduct.
Applicants are advised to review the detailed guidelines posted on the committee’s website and to ensure that all required documentation is ready for upload when the portal becomes operational.
